I just bought a 1st gen Axiom61 and am not an experienced midi user at all....I know just the basics etc.
I have an Alesis DM5 that I like to trigger with a basic edrum kit I have. I used an inexpensive midi-to-usb converter cable to connect the DM5 to my macbook, and trigger EzDrums or AddictiveDrums. It's been months since I've been able to hook everything up again. But this time I'm not having any luck getting anything work. I have no problem using my Axiom playing software instruments in Garageband, Logic..triggering EZdrums, AddictiveDrums etc. I don't really mess with the settings, just plug it in and it plays. But lately, I can't get a sound out of anything using the midi to usb cable. I've used MidiMonitor and shows no input at all. Straight USB connection from Axiom to computer works fine. I'm low on cash these days and can't replace the usb-midi converter anytime soon. So I was wondering maybe, as sort of a 'work-around' to be able to trigger AD or Ezdrummer with my edrums....Instead of connecting it ....pads->DM5>midi-out->Midi-USB-converter cable->computer into whatever software I'm running....Couldn't I run a cable from DM5 midi-out to Axiom61 Midi-In. Then USB midi-out from Axiom into my macbook? I've tried running that configuration and turning on 'midi out from usb' with no luck. I'm clueless about the Axiom settings and keep the DM5's settings basic. Rootnote-36c1 gain-50 vcurve-4 Xtalk-30 Dec-10 Nois-00 Channel-10 or 00 Thru-On (or off) Local-Off PChg-ON Ctrl-Off MIDI-000 Int-00....I haven't been able to trigger Anything! I'm sure Im doing something really stupid...but running the dm5 through the axiom would just be considered a sort of daisy-chain hook-up, right? If anyone can Help, has any tips, or maybe some humorous insults for me...lemme have 'em! ;)
